Kilimanjaro Coffee Plantation – Half Day Excursion
February 3, 2017Materuni Waterfall and Materuni Village
The highest waterfall on the slopes of Kilimanjaro – in the middle of beautiful rain forest and agricultural land
At a height of almost 150 m, Materuni Waterfall is located on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro, in the Moshi area. From Materuni Village, we hike around 30 minutes through picturesque agricultural land and deep rain forest to the waterfall. The walk itself is interesting, as you will see some smaller waterfalls and lots of waterways which are part of the irrigation system of the local farmers, who grow coffee, bananas and many other fruits and vegetables. At the waterfall, you can even refresh in the cool and crystal clear water – don’t forget to bring your swimwear!
At the waterfall, we will have our lunch box (included in the price).
We then return to Materuni Village and visit a typical local house, taste some “Mbege”, the local alcoholic brew made from finger millet and bananas and visit a coffee farmer who introduces us to the cultivation and processing of coffee, from the plant to the cup.
We will depart at around 9am and return at around 4:30pm.
